Grady Harp, June 18 I thoroughly enjoyed this book both for its great Camino tale and for the author’s ability to capture the many nuances of the parent/child relationship, particularly with an eye toward life review, given his mother’s prognosis.The writing is witty and much of it shared via journals wriiten while events were occurring. The Camino section, in particular, tells much of the story of their pilgrimage directly from the journals kept while on the trail; an exhausting, awesome, amusing and irreverant trek!But there is also a lightness and humor not often found in a story describing end of life and the sometimes grueling caretaking that occurs. It’s a great love story and describes powerful lessons learned through tales of interaction and connection. None of it would be viable without the principals, Inge and Cameron. But all of the people in this book are people you want as friends. (I’m enamored with Carrie, the teenager that blithley tags along on a 500 mile hike agreeing to leave her makeup and most electronics behind.) Cameron Powell captures and beautifully describes how extraordinary people are when they are open to new experiences and are able to feel and accept compassion for and from others.
