I love planning trips. I really do not do it casually, serious business here....I bought pretty much all guide books to Peru for planning purposes since I wanted to plan and book my 2-week trip by myself. I use DK as primary reconnaissance to get a feel of what I will be interested in and plan the itinerary. Then I was goign to use Lonely and Rough guide for detailed planning and booking and bring with me. I also have Insight guide with wonderful picture but that I use more as a culture-oriented book before I to read before I go.I have been unable to use the Rough Guide. There is absolutely no hierarchy... in anything.No hierarchy in the layout so it is hard to quickly find the start and end of a section. There is no hierarchy between things. I have 2 days in Lima and there are 30 things listed in there, I need SOMEBODY to rank them, give me an opinion, tell me what's best so that I can choose.Actually it's not completely true, there is a top 5 or 10 at the beginning that includes all the things other guides tell you are not interesting, or things I found uninteresting, or it does not include what I would consider the best things to see.So subjectively.. it's not a guidebook for me since we seem not to value the same thingsObjectively it's a nightmare to use because of the lack of hierarchy. I am not a huge fan of Lonely planet but for Peru, it was far superior Great value this is my second rough guide from this provider.
